If before 1970 and despite its numerous participations, Porsche did not have to win the LeMans 24 Hours, the factory of Salzburg had already won the Sebring 12 Hours in 1968 and a private team had already won this race in 1960.

The bodyshell of 917K that runs in Sebring is often different from the one of LeMans because of the constraints of tracks and duration of the race: it is the case in 1971. The rear is completely modified again ; the drift are deleted and gills refilled on the front wheelarches.
