#24 in the spotlight

New kit 1/24th & 24 Heures du Mans 2024

New kit 1/24th

We have to go back to 2013 to find the last real new kit at 1/24th. It took a beautiful project to update us and it is the Chenard and Walcker victorious of the first 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1923 that caught our attention.

Three Chenard & Walcker participated in this first edition, two 3 liters and one 15 HP Tourism. We focused our efforts on the 3-litre version, including the #9 car that wins the race, and the #10 car that finishes 2nd. One of the 2 models can be made with the components provided in the kit box.

We wanted to create a multi-material kit so that assembly enthusiasts can have fun: this kit is not for novices. A mishmash of more than 200 parts to assemble: resin printed parts, turned metal rims and photo-etching parts. The decal is screen printed for greater flexibility and realism. We provide a small tool to form the spokes of the wheels and a template in photo-etching to cut the headlights. The tires are molded in soft resin. The kit also contains a driver figurine. And with the 2 heads of André Lagache and Christian Dauvergne and the 4 arms provided several possibilities are offered to customize his model.

Benoît has always been interested in technical and technological innovations that improve creative and manufacturing processes. Already familiar with 3D printing since the integration of CAD in 2003 for modeling prototypes, its rapid evolution and popularization for production has seduced him. Hence the decision to migrate to 3D printing production for this new kit and probably the followers... Two first printers were installed in our new reserved area in the workshop of Yvré-le-Pôlin. A first printer allows the printing of the body and the chassis in a harder resin than the «small delicate parts» which are printed with a resin a little more flexible which will allow a less delicate degrading and a more serene assembly.

For a few weeks now, we test, rail against the machines and us but finally print the first parts of this kit. For a few days now, we have also been producing the 1/32nd Espace F1 racing chassis on one of these printers.
