Henri Pescarolo

For Matra Team, all the hopes of victory in 24 Heures du Mans are allowed in 1972 with the withdrawal of Ferrari. Lola Team is the Matra's new challenger. 

Four Matra cars are entered, three MS670 and 660 C of Jabouille-Hobbs who will even take over in the 2nd place of Cévert when this one meets problems of ignition up to its retirement at about 2:30 pm.

Car number 15 is a short version of 670. It was fitted with the same engine as 660. A duel between car number 15 and car number 14 quickly starts, and it is Pescarolo's car that wins.

After several attempts, in 1972 by Matra team, the failure of victory in 24 Heures du Mans becomes unthinkable especially when Ferrari then leader of the Championship decides to withdraw. 

The MS 670 is specially designed for LeMans 24 hours. Cars numbers 12 and 14 are equipped with the same long rear bonnet with two drift and one rear wing. 

The retirement of car number 12 of Jean-Pierre Beltoise during the 2nd lap because of engine failure shakes the confidence of the whole team.

In 1972, all the entity Matra is in excitement. Everyhting was put at the disposal of the team to try to swipe the victory at LeMans 24 Hours.

Car number 14, just like car number 12 is equipped with a long rear hood with drift and long wing. Matra dominates the race : Pescarolo-Hill's and Cévert-Ganley's Matras fights to lead the race. Shortly before noon nevertheless a big fright in the team of number 14 which is struck by a Corvette. Until the end of the race, the car of François Cévert must face with problem before crossing the finishing line behind Pescarolo.
