Alpine Renault A220 n°28

In 1968 LeMans 24 Hours inaugurate the new plan of the circuit which now includes the Ford curve. Renault comes back to LeMans under the features from Alpine to whom it confides the preparation of 11 cars. Four A220 are equipped with the new V8 Gordini improved for the occasion.

After a very moderate start A220 car number 28 is 20th after one hour of race. Grandsire succeeds in going back to the 13th rank when he loses control to Mulsanne at the 7th hour of race.

John Wyer is a very successful team manager at the end of the 60's. He created J.W Automotive to lead Ford to the victory from 1966 to 1969 in Le Mans 24 Hours. His name is also associated with the developpment of the Porsche 917 and then with the Mirage GR8 that wins Le Mans in 1975 such as with orange and blue colours of the Gulf Team.
