Porsche 928 n°97 - LeMans 1983

By launching Porsche 928, Ernst Furhmann, director of that time of Porsche wishes to get out of the monoculture 911 in which the brand was anchored and develop new markets.

Its modern design reflects the aesthetic trends of the late 1970s and early 1980s. It is a massive and robust car with generous dimensions. Not much appreciated by fans of the 911 and its Flat6, it will nevertheless have a certain success, especially in the United States, market for which it was primarily intended, and will benefit from an amazing longevity.

Only Porsche 928 from the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Porsche 928 n°97 is covered in a fully metallic livery like a harlequin for a 100% French team composed of Raymond Boutinaud, owner of the team, Patrick Gonin and Alain Le Page. They run 234 laps.

Porsche comes back to LeMans in 1986 with the firm intention to take its place back as leader in endurance. The white Porsche car number 180 is one of three cars entered by the German company. It is the endurance version of Porsche 959 of series; a monster in its proportions, but a jewel filled with new technologies which put to the test the physical and technical capacities of the drivers

In spite of a good seventh place in the general classification behind 6 other Porsche this model did not find its public.
